FRANKLINTON (Lisa Rantala) — A family found out the hard way why safety experts say parents should always monitor a teen’s activity online.
That’s after police arrested a man who’s accused of meeting 13-year-old and 15-year-old sisters on Facebook, with the intentions of having sex. Phillip Graves faced a judge Tuesday on two felony counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. Police say Graves started communicating with the girls and met them at their home the next day. That’s when police say he asked the girls to have sex with him.
Friends of the sisters told ABC 6/FOX 28 that police were called after the girls’ grandmother noticed suspicious posts on their Facebook accounts.
Safety expert Caitlin Tully told ABC 6/FOX 28 that parents need to stay internet savvy and ask their kids which sites they go to and how they use them. She says parents also need to create accounts on all the social media sites, including Instagram, Snap Chat, Facebook and Twitter.
